DX Associate Alumni

dx Associates has been replaced by our NEW Artist in Residence programme.

dx Associates was a past programme that was designed to support both artistic and business development. The chosen artists were supported for 2 years with a bespoke development package including studio and production space, mentoring, guidance and a commission. Commissioned work was presented within our seasons of performance in The Patrick Studio.

Carlos Pons Guerra

Carlos Pons Guerra: Choreographer and founder of DeNada Dance Theatre, an internationally touring company creating darkly humorous, highly theatrical and vigorously physical work that often explores themes of sexual, gender and cultural identity. DeNada Dance Theatre was nominated for a UK Critics’ Circle National Dance Award ‘Best Independent Company’ in 2016, for the triple bill Ham and Passion.

Having the backing of an organisation like dx will allow the capacity and management of my company to grow, giving me more space to focus on my choreography, and grow as an artist. I am very interested in using this opportunity to expand the scale of my work from small to mid-scale. dx also has a great reputation for excellent outdoor work, so I would like to use this opportunity to explore working in that genre as well.

Rudi Cole And Julia Robert Pares Of Humanhood

Rudi Cole and Júlia Robert Parés of Humanhood: An exciting new company based in Birmingham, founded in 2015. The company exists to create thoughtful productions that merge energy, shifting light, sound and movement, evoking an extraordinary experience for the audiences. Humanhood’s repertoire includes Without Walls Consortium commissioned outdoor duet Orbis and full-length theatre production ZERO, 1st Prize Winner at Madrid’s International Choreography Competition Pasoa2.

Being a dx Associate means we can collaborate with a team of professionals supporting our work as artists and work together for the growth of Humanhood as a company. We look forward to developing Humanhood’s first group piece ‘Torus’, anticipated to be premiered in Spring 2019 at the Patrick Centre.

Corey Baker Dance

Corey Baker Dance has a track record of creating engaging shows that tackle important subjects. British-New Zealand choreographer Corey Baker has taken dance off the stage and into new unusual settings including festivals, phone boxes, trampolines and stadium venues for the Rugby World Cup. Corey has also worked in the dance film, most recently producing and directing Fat Freddy’s Drop new music video. Corey is about dance and art for all.

It is wonderful to be able to continue developing as an artist in Birmingham and creating work for the eclectic people of Birmingham. Without DanceXchange’s support and nurturing this wouldn’t be possible. DanceXchange have played a pivotal role in my development as an artist and wouldn’t be creating the work I am today without them.
