THIS CLASS HAS LIMITED CAPACITY AND TICKETS CAN ONLY BE BOOKED IN ADVANCE ONLINE. Please read DanceXchange’s Covid-19 safety procedures to ensure you can return to the studio with us safely. You should only attend if you can present evidence of a negative Lateral Flow Test taken no more than 24 hours prior to your arrival.

Class booking will close 10 minutes before the start time. Please ensure all personal information is entered correctly when booking your class.

Our tutors guide you through a warm-up and the basics, gradually increasing the pace and difficulty as you develop. Join us with a partner or come along solo!

Studio Class FAQs

Our staff members will be there to guide you and answer any questions you may have.

Step 1: Ensure you arrive with evidence (text or email) of a NEGATIVE rapid lateral flow test result. Without this, you will be unable to enter the building so please remember to do this the day of your class. You can order free test kits here:

Step 2: Wearing your mask, you will enter the building using the main staircase/lift to access Level 5.

Step 3: Check in at reception and sanitise your hands before entering the studio where you can remove your mask if you would like to. Please remember our changing/shower facilities are not open at this time so do come to class changed and ready to go!

Step 4: At the end of your class, you will be able to head out through the main staircase/lift.

Please ensure you are on time, if you are more than 15 minutes late to class you won’t be able to access the studio.

When you buy online you will need to set up your account via our booking system. To book classes online please click here or click the shopping cart icon in the header of the website to access the account registration process and follow the simple set-up instructions.

Once purchased, tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded unless the class/event is cancelled. All tickets will be offered subject to availability at the time of booking. Please give us a call us on 0121 667 6730 to discuss further.
Anything comfortable that lets you move freely. You can wear tracksuit bottoms, leggings & t-shirts for most classes. Please wear light-soled trainers or dance shoes (if you have them), Contemporary and yoga classes are bare feet.


No, these are currently closed until further notice.
We don’t have lockers so please take all your valuable possessions with you into the studio from the changing rooms.
Yes, please bring your refillable water bottle with you. You can take bottles with you into the studios.
You won’t be allowed to join a class if you’re more than 15 minutes late. This is because you’ll have missed the warm-up, which increases your chance of injury.

Helen Calcutt

Cuban Salsa Tutor

Originally a student of classical ballet and jazz, Helen went on to perform as a commercial dancer before moving into contemporary dance, and later, Cuban rhythms and salsa. Trained with U.K.A Dance, Trinity, and Creative Alliance, she performs, choreographs, and teaches across the U.K.

Helen has collaborated with the likes of Def Motion, The Birmingham Conservatoire, The Hippodrome, Integra Lab, BIDF, Canela Fina, The DX, The REP, and The BBC, among others. Also a poet, and with a degree in Philosophy and Professional Writing, she creates work that forms connections between dance and text, as well as drawing on her background of varied techniques to explore new movement, especially in theatre and performance. In 2014 she created and performed a solo work ‘Mairna’ at The Southbank Centre as part of the Poetry In Festival. In 2017 she devised a contemporary piece incorporating sign-language, performed at The Birmingham Weekender Festival. She was a choreographer on Regional Voice Theatre’s new production ‘The Darlaston Dog Fight’, showcased at The Arena in 2018. She was movement director on a community-based performance ‘I’d Do It All Again’ for MAT in June 2018.

Helen teaches classes in contemporary dance, salsa, jazz and commercial dance in the city, also working in Early Stages development through to third-year vocational dance study. She regularly delivers masterclasses choreographic and creative practice The Uni of Birmingham and The Uni of Wolverhampton.

Helen believes Cuban-salsa to be one of the most focused and enriching movement disciplines, and that the joy found in its social aspects can be experienced and nurtured in the studio. Her classes focus on rhythm, connection, and attention to detail. She creates a vibrant, friendly atmosphere where dancers can flourish.
